I just want to say that Chekhov has been spelled wrong in this post. And as a scholar of Chekhov, I don't appreciate it.

:)

unless it's supposed to be like that.

Welcome back all y'all.

I'll do one better than adding a list of contributors to the site: I'll actually redesign the site in such a way that it becomes readable!

Without losing the pink flamingo, of course...

I'll try to get to it in the next week or so.

I've decided to start looking into training options for the next year - maybe somewhere near some of you. In the other direction, this place looks cool:

http://www.impliedviolence.com/

From their mission: "Driven by boredom and disgust for theatre, we craft fierce, audacious performance pieces."

I'll also take suggestions, but I'm only interested in ensemble theatres (especially physical and with a focus on devised work).

The only theatre I'm doing these days is admin work - bookkeeping, preparing for renovations, building a board, etc. Been there before. So I'm getting my creatives out with Dirt Circle Dogs, starting to gig more and talking about touring. I also have some new writing ideas that need writ down.

So I haven't been auditioning, but now that I'm taking this Chekhov class after a full year of basically not doing anything theater related except a few failed projects (and a couple auditions), it feels so strange. Lindsay, you said you fear that you've forgotton how to do the whole rehearsing/working on a play thing. Well that's what I feel like in the midst of doing it. I'm working on these scenes and doing class work all with the feeling that I have no clue in the world about what I'm doing. Part of that is being in a learning setting again, so I'm learning new ways to go about acting and the rehearsal process, but it's also just this big mixture of my mind being blown with how amazing theater really is and the fear that I'll never actually be more than just competent at it.

I mentioned this to Kyle the other day, but for you other actors, my acting teacher was talking the other day about the importance of actors to continue taking acting classes/lessons/etc every week, throughout their lives. He made the interesting point that there's no question that dancers go to dance class every week, that singers have to take voice lessons every week. So why is it that actors feel they are above needing that kind of constant learning? Good question Sam (my teacher), good question. I think it was an important thing for him to say because I think we'd all feel so much more at ease and have a lot more material we could work with if we made the choice to continue training outside of a job or specific rehearsal setting. Even if it's just being in a group that does staged readings every week or getting together with friends to work on stuff--concentrating on the acting process.

Good luck to both of you--hope something comes of your auditioning soon:) Miss and love all of you--and good luck to Cassie and Danny on their move!

Kyle that's great!

And now I'm going to rant.

For me it feels like I'm in the weird limbo world of audition-land. And it beginning to make me feel like I'm a little crazy. Like I'm repeating myself over and over again:

"hello, my name is Lindsay Nance, and I'll be doing a piece from As You Like It, followed by The Real Think (do monologue). Thanks so much for you time!"

I do this again and again and again. And I'm beginning to get little scared that I've forgotten to do that part where I'm on stage for 2 hours a day, three or so night a week, for four or so weeks.

I do realize I've only been at this 9 months, and I have had some great opportunities come my way in that amount of time. But just for dramatic effect, I'M AN ADDICT AND I WANT MY FIX, GODDAMN! It's not like I'm asking for the Goodman, or the Steppenwolf exactly, just one of 15 or so other company's i've audition for in the last weeks.

Ok that feels better now. Thanks for listen guys. Maybe I can go back to my regularly scheduled program of audition for the rest of the weekend.

I hope you're all well. Kyle thanks for taking the initiative of getting back on the wagon, career wise, but also in terms of the blog.

Love you all, L

by the way, this show will actually be happening, but it looks like it won't be till 2010 or even 2011. they said they'll contact me for a "refresher" audition when the time comes. looks like i could still get my equity card if i don't before then!

I recently read Sarah Ruhl's "The Clean House" and enjoyed it. She also wrote a great "Eurydice".

I also saw Jez Butterworth's "Night Heron" at a theatre here and enjoyed it. Very Pinter.

Have I already made you read Chuck Mee's "<a href="http://www.charlesmee.org/html/firstlove.html" rel="nofollow">First Love</a>" and "<a href="http://www.charlesmee.org/html/perfectwedding.html" rel="nofollow">The Perfect Wedding</a>"? Both are available on his website and worth the read.

Disclosure: "Clean House", "Perfect Wedding", "First Love" and Mee's "<a href="http://www.charlesmee.org/html/limonade.html" rel="nofollow">Limonade Tous Les Jours</a>" were the biggest influences on my latest (which some of you read).

to go along with lindsay, that would be cool to have a section where we could put specific information for shows that we are doing/where we are touring/visiting/etc., so we don't have to keep looking in past blog entries. It would be nice to have various side columns maybe? And I like this format of having just one blog on the page, but at the same time I don't want to miss an entry if I forget to always hit 'previous' when I visit the blog....so I feel conflicted.....:)

Hi friends! This is lovely...my. And now I have a little something to disclose....I have never used a blog, this is it, I've been deflowered, and I think it just might be great!!!
Hey Eric...because as previously stated I have very little expericen in this virtual realm, I don't know what suggestion are even out of our reach...so does a blog work, like just a mass email, or can there be sections. I was thing an section where we could post if we were in a show, or if we were going to be in an area of the country of interest to other people on the blog.
anyway..yeah Nicole, for being "granted" an audition:) And Kyle what is this audition you had in D.C.?
love you all. L
